Save a hot dog, save a life.

I noticed at the Super America I frequent that they were always throwing away sandwiches, salads and so on that looked perfectly fine, certainly for someone who was destitute. I tried to talk the president of SA into donating the excess to food shelves or the like. They said no because of liability issues, so I created a website to get them to reconsider. It ended up a stupid waste of time; nothing happened.

Do Better Super America

Why is Super America so wasteful?

Super America tosses thousands of dollars of edible food each day.

When it comes to being a company that cares, a company that tries to give back, Super America, is certainly less than super. As a regular visitor to my neighborhood Super America, I started noticing the clerks tossing perfectly good food. When I asked them why not donate it to a food shelf, their response was that corporate policy wouldn’t allow it. “It is such a shame, with so many people out there struggling, that we can’t give it away,” said one of the clerks I talked with.

When I emailed SA, Logan, one of their customer service people told me, “Health Department regulations as well and the possibility that these items had expired, we are unable to donate these items to a local food pantry.” However there seem to be no Health Department regulations that are effected. More so a bakery down the street regularly donates unused bakery products to a food shelf. And this is done with no additional effort on their part. A volunteer picks the unused items up at a pre-set time and delivers them to the food shelf.

There would be no additional effort on the part of Super America employees to give the food away and help so many needy families.

Logan goes on the further explain that it is really a liability issue with them, which sounds like the response of an attorney and not a humanitarian.

As SuperAmericaWastes gathers more information we will share that and offer ways on how we might convince Super America to become a better corporate citizen.
